An AI tool for automating internal linking on a large site is three decisions sold as one product: how it picks a target page, where the finished link is stored, and what the vendor meters. LinkBoss, Koala and InLinks all link an affiliate program from the pages cited below, worth remembering when a listicle names a winner. This comparison works from each vendor's own pages as they read on 7 October 2026. We did not benchmark suggestion quality; the sampling check at the end is how you test that on your own pages.
What separates AI internal linking software on large websites?
AI internal linking software for large websites differs less in the model behind the suggestions than in where the link ends up living. Link Whisper and LinkBoss write it into your CMS, and LinkBoss says "links stay permanent even if you remove LinkBoss plugin from your site." InLinks, KoalaLinks and LinkStorm insert it with a script when the page renders; InLinks says "Internal links are dynamically injected with JavaScript and fully crawlable by search engines." Screaming Frog's SEO Spider is the reporting option: its Duplicate Details tab and Semantic Similarity filter "can be used to improve internal linking between semantically similar content," the feature needs a paid licence, and we found no insertion step in the tutorial.
Google addresses script-inserted links directly: "Links are also crawlable when you use JavaScript to insert them into a page dynamically as long as it uses the HTML markup shown above," meaning an anchor element with an href attribute. That sentence speaks for Google's crawler. If you also care which pages other crawlers and AI assistants can reach, a subject we cover in how to get cited by ChatGPT, check the raw HTML of a linked page before relying on injected links.
| Tool | Finds targets by | Link lives in | Meter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Link Whisper | AI that "analyses your content to generate contextual link suggestions"; optional keyword auto-linking | WordPress content, on your approval | Sites and AI credits: $97 a year (1 site, 2,000 credits) to $497 (50 sites, 10,000) |
| InLinks | Mapping content to "actual entities recognized by search engines" | JavaScript injection | Pages: 1 credit per page added, capped at monthly credits |
| LinkBoss | A "semantic placement algorithm" | WordPress and Shopify content; the "Any CMS" beta is copy and paste | Inserted links: $11 a month (200 credits) to $549 (15,000) |
| LinkStorm | Its own crawl and "2 distinct proprietary AI methods" | JavaScript snippet (its plugin on WordPress), shown while you subscribe | URLs: $30 a month (1,000) to $200 (50,000) |
| KoalaLinks | A site index (it "only needs an XML sitemap") and "Three semantic AI layers" | JavaScript snippet | Pages analyzed: $49 a month (500) to $2,000 (12,500) |
| Screaming Frog SEO Spider | Crawl plus embeddings from OpenAI, Gemini or Ollama | No insertion described | Paid licence and your own API key |
What does KoalaLinks charge for?
KoalaLinks is an AI internal linking tool sold inside Koala's content suite, and its meter is the easiest here to forecast. Koala says "Analyzing a page uses 2 credits," indexing uses none, and its table converts plans into pages: $49 a month analyzes 500, $179 analyzes 2,500, if links get the plan's whole balance of platform credits, which Koala shares with KoalaChat, KoalaImages and its other tools. Links arrive through the snippet, in bulk for the archive or on Autopilot for new pages. Koala also says "KoalaLinks will still continue to work for analyzed pages even if you cancel your subscription." We found no anchor or links-per-page settings described on that page.
How does LinkBoss meter bulk linking?
LinkBoss is an AI internal linking tool that gives the audit away and charges for inserted links. LinkBoss says "Credits are only used when inserting internal links into your content": 1 credit per link with In-Post Sentences, 2 per link with its Smart Internal Link Generator, and 50 free credits on signup. The published ceiling is "websites with up to 25,000 posts/pages/products," higher on the Dominator plan. Smart Pipeline Mode, part of Bulk 2.0, tries three placements in order: Native Insertion on existing sentences, Precision Rephrase, which rewrites for a suitable anchor, and Context Insertion, which adds new sentences. The last two change your copy, so on closely edited pages limit a run to one method and preview links before they go live.
Where does LinkStorm fit?
LinkStorm is an AI internal linking tool built on its own crawl of your site, which explains why it prices by URL. LinkStorm says it "crawls your pages and analyzes their content," works "for any web platform, including JavaScript-heavy sites," and integrates with Google Search Console. Accept suggestions one by one, or switch on auto-linking, which adds links "without any manual input" and still lets you remove any of them. Accepted links reach the page through a JavaScript snippet, and the LinkStorm FAQ says "If you stop your subscription, the snippet will stop displaying the links you have accepted in LinkStorm." On pricing, LinkStorm pairs each URL allowance with an equal number of credits, which "determine your monthly limit for URL analysis."
Which tools suit WordPress?
The best AI tools for internal linking on WordPress, for SEO teams that want the link stored in the post itself, are Link Whisper and LinkBoss. Link Whisper runs as a plugin in the WordPress dashboard and licenses by site: $97 a year for one site with 2,000 AI credits, $197 for three, $297 for ten and $497 for fifty with 10,000 credits. Its pricing FAQ says "The default suggestion mode shows you recommendations that you review and approve individually," and Auto-Linking runs only on keyword rules you configure, which makes it an editor's tool first. We found no figure there for how many AI credits one post's suggestions use, and no page cap, so test consumption inside the 14-day money-back window (initial license purchases only). LinkBoss is the bulk-first choice.
What does a 2,000 page site cost on each tool?
For a 2,000 page site, the AI internal linking tools compared here (Link Whisper, InLinks, LinkBoss, LinkStorm and KoalaLinks) produce very different bills in 2026, because each counts something different. Take a hypothetical 2,000 page WordPress site planning a one-time backfill of 3 new links per page (our assumption), or 6,000 links.
- LinkBoss: 6,000 links at 1 credit each (In-Post Sentences) need 6,000 credits, or 12,000 if every link used the 2-credit Smart Internal Link Generator. The yearly Scale plan lists 12,000 credits for $333, delivered at once. The Unlimited plans at $87 and $197 a year are out: both carry "Max 1,000 Pages Per Site."
- KoalaLinks: one month of the $179 plan, which analyzes 2,500 pages.
- LinkStorm: the $60 a month tier covers 5,000 URLs, or $720 over a year, paid for as long as you want the links displayed.
- Link Whisper: $97 a year for one site; the open question is how far 2,000 AI credits stretch across 2,000 posts.
- InLinks: InLinks caps pages at your monthly credits (100 at level 1, 205 at level 2), so all 2,000 pages need a level with at least 2,000 credits, and its pricing calculator, which adds $49 a month per level, puts 2,000 pages at level 15 (up to 2,025 pages) for $735 a month. Its internal linking page quotes "approximately $49US per 100 interlinked pages per month," and a reply from the pricing article's author in its comments (April 2024) advises a shop with 25,000 products to add its 20 money pages plus 80 blog pages instead of the whole catalogue.
Which tool would we pick for 2,000 pages?
The best internal linking automation tool for SEO in 2026, on a 2,000 page WordPress site, is LinkBoss on a credit plan by our reading of the documentation. The per-link meter matches a one-time backfill, the links are stored in your content, the size ceiling is published, and a run can be held to Native Insertion so no sentence is rewritten. Off WordPress and Shopify we would start with LinkStorm's 5,000 URL tier, since it says it works for any web platform. KoalaLinks is the most predictable to price if script-inserted links are acceptable, and InLinks makes sense when entity mapping on a curated set of pages is the goal. The fees in this example run from $97 for a year of Link Whisper to $735 a month for InLinks, so plan reviewer hours alongside them when you split a content budget between SEO and AI answer visibility.
Sample before any bulk insert
Every tool here can add links faster than anyone can read them, so read a sample first. Pull 100 proposed links from across your templates and score each on four yes or no questions:
- Is the target the page you would choose for that topic, and is it live, indexable and canonical?
- Does the anchor pass Google's test? "Try reading only the anchor text (out of context) and check if it's specific enough to make sense by itself."
- Does the sentence still read the way your writer left it?
- Is the link new, with no existing link to that target already on the page?
A hypothetical result: 84 of 100 pass all four. On a 6,000 link plan that failure rate projects to about 960 bad links (16% of 6,000). Our working threshold is 90 of 100, an editorial judgment of ours and no industry standard. Below it, tighten the settings and resample before inserting anything. Anchors are also where product and brand names drift from page to page, a problem we cover in LLMs cite the brand that agrees with itself. Google's line on volume applies too: "There's no magical ideal number of links a given page should contain. However, if you think it's too much, then it probably is."
Whether a cleaner link graph changes how often AI answers mention your brand is a separate measurement: AI share of voice is the metric, and the AI Visibility Checker and our AI search optimization service are further resources for that work.
