AI SEO Platforms for Marketing Teams Compared by Feature and Price

Semrush, Ahrefs, Surfer, Conductor and BrightEdge compared on AI features, seat rules and the prices each vendor publishes or withholds, as read on October 7, 2026.

On this page

A 2025 list of the best AI SEO platforms for marketing teams is only as current as the day its prices were copied, and price is the part of a roundup that ages fastest. This comparison of Semrush, Ahrefs, Surfer, Conductor and BrightEdge uses only what each vendor publishes on its own pricing, product and help pages, all read on October 7, 2026. Where a vendor withholds a number, the table says so.

Our position after reading all five: the feature lists have converged, and the meter is what a team is buying. Every one of these vendors now sells AI answer tracking next to its research, content and site health tools. The four that publish a tracking unit count it three different ways (prompts, checks and credits), and seats are sold three different ways too. Those two counts settle the tier long before a feature demo does.

What do the AI features do in each platform?

Sorting the best AI SEO tools and platforms for marketing teams, from 2025 lists or newer ones, gets easier once each AI feature is filed under the job it does: research, content, technical work or AI answer tracking. Feature names and plan gates in the table are the vendors' own wording.

Which platforms publish a price, and what does a seat cost?

Among the top paid AI SEO platforms on 2025 lists, three of these five publish self-serve prices and two publish none. Sources are the first table's pages plus the Semrush guide linked below the table.

PlatformPublished priceSeatsWithheld
SemrushSEO $139, Starter $199, Pro+ $299, Advanced $549 a month; $117.33 to $455.67 a month when billed annuallyOne user seat per plan; added users $45, $80 or $100 each on Starter, Pro+ and AdvancedEnterprise: "Custom pricing available"
AhrefsLite $129, Standard $249, Advanced $449 a month, plus a $29 Starter; Enterprise $1,499 a month, annual commitment required1 user included; up to 2, 5 or 10 more at $40, $60 or $80 a month eachWe found no withheld plan price
SurferDiscovery $49, Standard $99, Pro $182, Peace of Mind $299 a month, billed yearly; a tracking plan, AI Search Analytics, at $821, 3, 5 and 10 team seats, bundled by tierEnterprise: "Custom"
ConductorWe found none on the pricing pageWe found no seat count; the page says pricing follows usageAll three plans: Essentials, Growth and Enterprise
BrightEdgeWe found no public pricing pageWe found no seat informationEverything; the call to action is "Request a demo"

Seat rules move the bill further than the headline price suggests. Semrush says in its user management guide that "all Semrush plans come with one user seat", and that an added user gets full access to the SEO features, while AI Visibility Toolkit access takes a separate $99 purchase for that person. Ahrefs starts Enterprise at 3 included users, with more at $100 a month each. Surfer bundles its seats into the tier. Conductor's page sums up its model in one line: "Our usage-based model aligns the value you get to the price you pay."

Each vendor counts tracked prompts in its own unit

Semrush and Surfer count prompts. Semrush's three AI tiers track 50, 100 or 200 a day. Surfer's Standard refreshes 25 weekly "Across ChatGPT", and Pro lists 50 tracked "Simultaneously across all models" with a daily refresh. Ahrefs counts checks, defined on its pricing page this way: "Tracking one prompt on one platform in one location uses 1 check." Ahrefs adds one exception on its custom prompts page: "Claude consumes 8 checks per update." Its plans include 150, 300 or 600 checks a month, and prompt packages add 2,500 checks for $50, 7,000 for $100 or 25,000 for $250, with overage billed from $0.020 down to $0.010 a check.

Conductor counts credits weighted by engine. The pricing page calls them AI Search Credits and the documentation calls them AI Response Credits; we read those as one unit. Conductor prices a ChatGPT (Auto) response at 1 credit, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot at 0.2 and Google AIO at 0.1, then works the allowance out as "2,500 total credits / 52 weeks = ~48 credits available per week".

So "50 prompts" is a different purchase on each price sheet. Engines, locations and cadence all change what the number buys, which is part of where prompt-based visibility tracking breaks. Whatever the unit, the output worth paying for is the same: a defensible read on your AI share of voice.

A short test for the tier you need

Whether AI SEO tools are worth paying for, in a 2025 comparison or this one, depends on three counts you can make before any demo: people who need a login, prompts multiplied by engines and refresh cadence, and documents produced in a year.

Take a hypothetical team of four, all needing logins, that wants 50 prompts tracked daily and content optimization inside the tool. The arithmetic is ours, run on the published numbers at monthly billing where the vendor lists it.

  • Semrush: Starter covers the 50 daily prompts, but Content optimization is listed from Pro+. Pro+ at $299 plus three added users at $80 comes to $539 a month, or $836 if each added user also needs the $99 AI Visibility Toolkit access.
  • Ahrefs: in-plan prompts stop at 20 on Advanced, so the tracking moves to a prompt package. Fifty prompts daily on one platform other than Claude, in one location, is about 1,500 checks in a 30-day month, inside the $50 package. Standard at $249, three added users at $60, that package and the Content Kit at its $99 entry price total $578 a month.
  • Surfer: Pro lists 5 team seats, 50 prompts refreshed daily and 360 documents for $219 a month billed monthly, or $182 a month billed yearly.
  • Conductor: by its own math, Growth's 2,500 credits cover about 48 ChatGPT (Auto) prompts a week for a year. Fifty ChatGPT (Auto) prompts daily would use 350 credits a week and spend the allowance in about seven weeks, so this team needs a larger allocation and a sales conversation.
  • BrightEdge: we found no published numbers to run the test on.

Three added seats put $240 on top of a $299 Semrush plan. The entry plans drop out early as well: Ahrefs Lite tops out at three users, and Surfer's Discovery lists one seat and no prompt tracking.

What should an enterprise team ask before a demo?

An enterprise team weighing the best AI SEO platforms from 2025 lists (Semrush, Ahrefs, Conductor, BrightEdge and Surfer) on pricing and AI search will find that published prices mostly stop at the enterprise tier. Ahrefs is the exception, listing Enterprise at $1,499 a month with SSO, access management and an audit log. Semrush and Surfer both mark Enterprise as custom and place SSO there; Semrush adds team governance, audit logs and "Multi-million-page crawling". We found no published price at any tier for Conductor or BrightEdge.

That turns the demo into a pricing interview. Ask for the tracking unit and the yearly allowance, the weight each engine carries, the refresh cadence the quote assumes, who counts as a user, and the overage rate in writing. Ahrefs prints its overage rate and Conductor prints its engine weights, and both show what a complete answer looks like.

Where this comparison stops

This is a reading of price sheets. We did not test data quality or answer accuracy, and a cheaper meter attached to weaker data is a poor trade, so trial your two finalists against your own prompt list before signing. Our view holds all the same: a published price is a feature, and three of these five let a team run the test above without a sales call.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI SEO platforms publish their prices?
As of October 7, 2026, Semrush, Ahrefs and Surfer publish self-serve plan prices on their pricing pages. Semrush runs from $139 to $549 a month, Ahrefs' Lite to Advanced plans from $129 to $449 with Enterprise at $1,499, and Surfer from $49 to $299 a month billed yearly. Conductor's pricing page lists three plans with no dollar amounts, and we found no public pricing page for BrightEdge.
How many users do Semrush and Ahrefs plans include?
One each. Semrush's help center says all plans come with one user seat, and added users cost $45, $80 or $100 depending on tier, plus $99 per user for AI Visibility Toolkit access. Ahrefs includes 1 user on Lite, Standard and Advanced, with up to 2, 5 or 10 more at $40, $60 or $80 a month each.
Is AI answer tracking included in the plan or sold as an add-on?
Both, depending on volume. Semrush includes 50 to 200 daily prompts from Starter up. Ahrefs includes 5 to 20 tracked AI prompts and sells prompt packages from $50 a month. Surfer includes 25 weekly ChatGPT prompts on Standard and daily tracking across all models from Pro. Conductor lists 2,500 AI Search Credits a year from its Growth plan. BrightEdge sells tracking through AI Catalyst, and we found no public price for it.
What does one Conductor AI credit buy?
Conductor's documentation prices each AI response by engine: a ChatGPT (Auto) response uses 1 credit, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot use 0.2, and Google AIO uses 0.1. On that math, 2,500 credits support about 48 ChatGPT (Auto) prompts a week for a year. The same documentation recommends weekly tracking as the starting cadence for most topics.
When does a marketing team need an enterprise tier?
The vendors' own tier lists point to security and governance as the dividing line. Semrush, Ahrefs and Surfer each list SSO on their enterprise tier, and Semrush and Ahrefs add audit logs there. Ahrefs publishes its Enterprise price at $1,499 a month with an annual commitment, while Semrush and Surfer list theirs as custom.
